Why Choose Learn Hungarian Anywhere for Citizenship?

What makes us unique is the rare combination of skill and experience.

Lidia, with her university level teaching degree and 10 years of certified, professional teaching experience, personally taught Ethan and his entire family the Hungarian lessons needed to pass the citizenship exam. Ethan, with a Master’s in Business and a BA in Communication, not only succeeded in the process as a U.S. citizen and busy entrepreneur, he also helped refine our system from the applicant’s side.

Our programs cost in the thousands (and can save you thousands, too) because we do not offer a casual side lesson or a general language school package. Every student and case on our end requires serious, intensive effort: archival research, analysis, structured language training, and direct navigation of consular procedures. We do not just open a laptop, teach you some phrases, or contract out a random teacher and say goodbye.

If you are serious about Hungarian citizenship, and understand the financial and time commitment involved, we welcome you to contact us. If you are just testing the waters or hoping for shortcuts, this program is not for you.

We remain with you through the entire process, and if you ever feel like you want more language practice before the interview, you can usually join our ongoing Hungarian group lessons at no extra cost after enrollment in the citizenship program.

Who may qualify for Hungarian citizenship by descent?

Eligibility generally exists when at least one ancestor was Hungarian for simplified naturalization. That could be a parent, grandparent, or in some cases even a more distant ancestor who at one point held Hungarian citizenship. Claims can sometimes proceed through ancestors from the broader Austro-Hungarian Empire if the place and time are within scope. Small facts often decide outcomes. One person’s fact pattern can unlock a straight path without learning the language, while a near-identical story fails because one critical date, marriage, or naturalization happened differently, or because the timeline requires Hungarian language preparation.

In our experience, the authorities will not tell you why you get a rejection. That means you often only get one clear shot at presenting your language skills correctly, your file correctly, and your case with the right documents and the right framing.

What documents do you need to begin?

You will need birth and marriage records for you and the ancestors in the line of claim, immigration or naturalization records where relevant, and credible proof of Hungarian ancestry. Certified Hungarian translations are typically required. Success hinges on getting exact, complete, and properly translated documentation.

How long does the process take?

Timelines vary. Some files clear in under a year. Others take longer due to record retrieval, translation, and office backlogs. The fastest route is a fully correct file submitted once. Rework and piecemeal submissions add months if you DIY or try it alone.

Do I need to speak Hungarian, and what level is required?

Yes. For simplified naturalization you may need to demonstrate advanced conversational ability in Hungarian. This is not a classroom exam, but an in-person check at the consulate to ensure you can answer simple questions about yourself, Hungarian culture, and your application. The language portion is assessed very closely and very seriously. We can prepare you for this.

You can review the official requirements and wording at your nearest consulate’s website, for example the Embassy of Hungary in Washington.

Can I qualify if my ancestor emigrated decades ago?

Yes, many successful claims trace to grandparents or great-grandparents who left Hungary generations ago. However, law and history intersect in ways that matter.

Where should I apply: Budapest or my home-country consulate?

Filing and oath in your home-country consulate is usually more convenient logistically because everything goes to the same place. Filing in Budapest can be faster or easier if you live in Eastern or Central Europe, but it is usually best reserved for files that are bullet-proof and for applicants who are better prepared for the in-person demands.

What is simplified naturalization?

Simplified naturalization (egyszerűsített honosítás) is the most common case we see at Learn Hungarian Anywhere.

It is a streamlined legal pathway intended for people who are Hungarian or have a direct Hungarian ancestor, typically a grandparent or great-grandparent.

What is it called when I have a Hungarian parent or grandparent?

That may be Verification of Hungarian citizenship. If your parent or grandparent was a Hungarian citizen, your case typically proceeds under this framework to prove they never lost it.

What are the real benefits of EU citizenship?

An EU passport or citizenship allows the right to live, work, and study anywhere in the European Union, access to healthcare and education within the EU, legal and inheritance rights in Hungary, and the ability to pass citizenship to your children. For many, it is also a meaningful reconnection with identity and heritage.

Can I do this alone?

Our honest opinion, based on years of cases, is that most people who attempt this entirely on their own get stuck, get rejected due to incomplete or incorrect paperwork, lose time, or are rejected for other fixable reasons. It requires years of experience to nail this process seamlessly.

This is why we offer structured research, precise eligibility evaluation, and above all language lessons integrated into the starter package to match your pathway.

The biggest hidden cost in this process is not the fee. It is the wrong assumption made too early.
