An employer, university or professional organization may want formal proof of your Hungarian language proficiency. You need to prepare for the exam that can demonstrate it.
Knowing some Hungarian and performing well on a proficiency examination are different challenges. The exam requires you to understand instructions, communicate clearly and complete specific tasks under exam conditions.

Online quizzes and free ECL or Origó practice materials can help you study. But a grammar score alone does not show how you'll perform in a speaking examination or on a timed writing task.
You might read Hungarian well but hesitate when speaking. You might understand a conversation yet struggle to organize a written answer. Or you might know the language but be unfamiliar with the exam format.
This is why we also identify any specific gaps in your language skills and prepare you to handle the tasks that matter—instead of spending your time repeating what you already know.

What is a Hungarian language proficiency exam?
It is an assessment of your Hungarian language ability at a specified proficiency level, usually aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). ECL and Origó offer Hungarian-language examination routes. Before registering, verify which examination and level the receiving institution will accept.
Can I prepare online for the ECL Hungarian language exam?
Yes. We offer private online preparation for ECL Hungarian at A2, B1, B2 and C1 levels. Lessons may address reading, writing, listening and speaking, with an emphasis on your exam requirements and current proficiency.
Do you offer Origó Hungarian language exam preparation?
Yes. Preparation can be tailored to the ELTE Origó Hungarian as a Foreign Language examinations. The accredited levels are B1, B2 and C1. Origó also offers a non-accredited A2 START examination. The official provider limits Hungarian-as-a-foreign-language exam registration to non-Hungarian citizens, so confirm eligibility before booking.
What is the difference between ECL and Origó?
They are different examination systems with their own task formats, registration procedures and certificates. ECL offers Hungarian exams at A2 through C1, while ELTE Origó offers Hungarian as a Foreign Language exams with accredited certification at B1 through C1. Which one is suitable depends on your goal and the recognition rules of the organization requesting the certificate.
Can you help me prepare for a B2 Hungarian language exam?
Yes. B2 Hungarian exam preparation can cover timed reading and listening tasks, written communication, spontaneous speaking and exam-style practice. We first look at whether your existing language skills are near B2 or whether a longer language-development program is needed.
Can I prepare for only one skill, such as writing or speaking?
Yes. We can focus lessons on specific skills. International ECL regulations introduced separate skill modules for exams taken from August 2026; rules for exams taken in Hungary differ. Always confirm your particular exam provider's retake and module rules.
What Hungarian certificate do I need for work or university?
The employer, university or professional organization determines which certificates and CEFR levels it accepts. We can tailor your preparation once you know the required exam and level, or discuss preparation possibilities if you're still clarifying the requirement.
How long does Hungarian language exam preparation take?
That depends on your current proficiency, target level, exam date and areas needing improvement. Someone already functioning at B2 may mainly need examination practice; a beginner seeking B2 will need a substantially longer development plan. We do not prescribe the same number of lessons for everyone.
Are free Hungarian practice tests enough?
Free practice tests and official sample tasks are useful study tools, but they do not replace sustained language development or individualized feedback on speaking and writing. Our private preparation can complement your self-study with targeted instruction and exam-style rehearsal.
Does Learn Hungarian Anywhere administer exams or issue certificates?
No. We provide independent preparation, not official ECL or Origó testing. You register with the examination provider and receive any certificate from that provider. Test fees are separate from LHA lessons, and no result is guaranteed.
Will an ECL or Origó certificate be accepted by my employer or university?
Acceptance is determined by the organization requesting evidence of your Hungarian-language ability, not by the course provider. Before enrolling in an examination, confirm the exam name, CEFR level, certificate type and any country-specific requirements with that organization.
